Sierra Bonita Solar Housing

Sierra Bonita Apartments
7530 Santa Monica Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90046

Perhaps the most noticeable aspect of Sierra Bonita, an affordable housing development in West Hollywood, is the facade-integrated solar array that powers most of the peak load electricity demand for the common areas.  The building also has a solar-powered hot water heating system, but beneath the clearly visible green technology is a modern building with apartments fully adaptable for its disabled residents.

Sierra Bonita cost about $20.3 million to build, according to the developer, West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation.  The five-story project has a non-profit commercial space component on the ground level and 42 one-bedroom units above.

Every apartment has abundant natural lighting, energy-efficient
appliances, and high-speed internet access, while some of the apartments
are fully accessible with roll-in showers.

The project struck such a chord in the community that the developer
received 2,000 applications for residency and fully leased the building
through a lottery, according to Curbed LA.

Sierra Bonita has courtyard gardens, a roof deck garden, shady bamboo
clusters, and drought-tolerant landscaping.  It was designed by Tighe Architecture; Parker/Sarg Industries was the general contractor.
